We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story is a 1993 American animated science fiction adventure film, produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblimation animation studio, distributed by Universal Pictures, and released to theaters on November 24, 1993 for the United States. Starring the voice talents of René Le Vant, John Goodman, Rhea Perlman, Jay Leno, Felicity Kendal, Charles Fleischer, Walter Cronkite, Julia Child, Kenneth Mars, Yeardley Smith, and Martin Short.
It follows a quartet of dinosaurs who are given newfound intelligence by Mark Twain look-alike Captain Neweyes and travel to the "Middle Future" to fulfill the wishes of children in New York City to see real life dinosaurs. They meet up with two runaway children in their journey to the Museum of Natural History. But when panic breaks out, the heroes end up in an encounter with the frightening Professor Screweyes and his Eccentric Circus.
It is based on the 1987 Hudson Talbott children's book of the same name, which was narrated from the perspective of the main character, a Tyrannosaurus named Rex. It received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its animation, James Horner's musical score, and voice performances, but many criticizing its narrative, short running time and characters, particularly the lack of focus and development on the protagonists.
