Toad resembles his in-game counterpart, but has teeth. He has red spots and a white mushroom on his head. He has white skin, wears a brown backpack and blue vest, and has white pants. He also has light brown shoes.
Personality[]
Toad has a very energetic and adventurous attitude, even compared to most of the other Toads seen in the Mushroom Kingdom. Unlike many of them, he is also very brave and won't shy away from a fight, even when facing someone much larger than him, like Bowser. He is also very good-hearted and loyal, demonstrated by the fact that as soon as he meets Mario, he commits to helping him save his brother despite only just meeting him, and he quickly accompanies both him and Princess Peach on their journey to the Jungle Kingdom to recruit them to stand up to and defeat Bowser. This is demonstrated again when he promises to stay by Peach's side to protect her from harm at the beginning of the journey and stands by this vow later on even when the kingdom is being invaded Bowser and his forces, during which most of the Toads are fleeing and/or being evacuated to safety.
History[]
Upon Mario arriving in the Mushroom Forest the first time, Toad is camouflaged behind a few other mushrooms, before popping up and surprising Mario when he goes to touch one. He then introduces himself, and then guides the plumber through the forest, right before Mario states on needing help to rescue his brother from a dark location that had lava. Toad initially warn Mario about this and states that Luigi is doomed to soon be capture by the tyrannical ruler, Bowser, so he offers him to go to the Mushroom Kingdom and find their princess.
Soon, the two travel through the Mushroom Kingdom and through a series of platforms and pipes, arrive at the castle. However, two guards initially block them from going inside, so Toad decides whip out his frying pan and sauté them some vegetables, allowing Mario an opening to get inside.
Soon after Mario and Princess Peach head off for an adventure, Toad tags along with the two while stating that he fears nothing. So the three embark an adventure through many different lands, before they stop at a Fire Flower meadow. While Peach talks to Mario, Toad can be seen playing the flute. The next day, the three arrive at the Jungle Kingdom, and are taken to see the king there for his army.
After Mario accepts a challenge to defeat his son in a duel, Toad sits alongside Peach and Cranky Kong in a viewing balcony, and cheers when the plumber defeats Donkey Kong. Soon after, he is taken to an underground garage where he gets to build a custom kart. What he ends up going with is the Tiny Titan, and soon after, he alongside everyone else ramp up onto the secret passage, and then onto Rainbow Road. On there Toad can be seen disagreeing with Donkey Kong, who thinks the two are flirting, before Peach tells them to simmer down. He then responds by braking his kart backwards to leave them alone.
After an ambush occurs when the Koopa Troop attacks, Toad ends up falling out of his Tiny Titan and is about to fall into the ocean below, right before Peach rescues him and hitches a ride on her bike. He then becomes shocked when the Koopa Troop's general then blows up Mario and Donkey Kong after the ambush is dealt with. So he and Peach go back to the Mushroom Kingdom to warn the civilians about Bowser's arrival. Soon, the evil king's castle then lands in the kingdom, and Bowser then attempts to propose to the princess. When Peach denies, Bowser's right hand man, Kamek uses magic to torture Toad into making her accept.
Soon at the wedding, Toad gives Peach a bouquet, which he smuggled a power-up in, so that the princess can deal with Bowser and the onslaught of numerous enemies. After Peach, soon alongside Mario and Donkey Kong, ruin the wedding, Toad can be seen entering the altar on behalf of the princess' triumph. However, Bowser then launches a Bomber Bill on the kingdom, and he becomes shocked upon realizing that his home town is about to be annihilated, leading to Mario redirecting it into his warp pipe. The blast of the Bomber Bill leads to Toad, alongside everyone else to be sucked in and transported to Brooklyn, where he is then saved by Donkey Kong when a pile of rubble comes crashing down.
He then watches Mario be beaten by Bowser, and ridiculed by him when he is launched into the Punch-Out Pizzeria, soon aiding him by taking on Bowser alongside Peach and Donkey Kong, but is proven to be no match for him, soon being apprehended by the Koopa Troop. As Peach launches the star away from Bowser, Mario and Luigi are able to get it and turn the tables on him. Bowser is then fed a Mini Mushroom, as Toad then imprisons the Koopa King in a glass jar, raising it up to the other heroes, before placing him down as he is cheered by the citizens of Brooklyn. Toad then would later go back to the Mushroom Kingdom and transfer Bowser in a cage within the castle.
Origins[]
The Toad species first appeared in Super Mario Bros. as seven guards that serve Princess Peach, called Mushroom Retainers. After defeating a "Bowser" in a castle, Mario rescues a Toad, and is surprised when he says the famous quote Thank you Mario! But our Princess is in another castle!
As a singular character, Toad is known for being the long-time servant and attendant of Princess Peach. He always tries to protect her; however, he prominently fails almost every time during the events of her kidnapping. Despite his cowardice, Toad is notable for being one of the few characters who help the Mario Bros. through a variety of different ways throughout their adventures. Toad has even made his fair share of heroic contributions as seen in games such as in Wario's Woods, (a game that features Toad himself as the main hero) Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 3D World, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.
Power & Abilities[]
Backpack of Supplies: Toad always carries around his backpack packed full of essentials and items, including his trusty frying pan. Most of the items he brings along are usually for adventures or everyday purposes, but some can be used in combat, like his aforementioned frying pan, or a few power-ups. It is presumed that he also stored an Ice Flower in there for Princess Peach to use eventually.
Driving: When not panicking, Toad can drive a kart very well, like all the other characters.
Interests in music: It is heavily implied that Toad is a musician, and thus spends his free time in a band, singing, or playing instruments.
“Toad:DO NOT TOUCH THAT MUSHROOM! YOU'LL DIE!!! [Mario screams in horror] Toad: [pauses and looks at the Blue mushroom] Oop, I'm sorry! [cuddles the blue mushroom] That one's perfectly fine. Mario: That's a little mushroom man! A little mushroom man talking to me! Toad: Pleased to meet ya, I'm Toad! Mario: Uhh... Mario. (...) So this is- this is not a dream? Toad: [whacks Mario in the arm with his walking stick] That hurt, right? Mario:YES! Toad: Definitely not a dream. Mario: And this- this place is...? Toad:THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM! Mario: Mushrooms... really? Now that is a cruel twist of fate. [Suddenly, he hears something. He turns around and spots a Bramball stooping over his head.] Hello. [The Bramball continues walking] Yeah, I'm actually looking for somebody — my brother, in fact. He looks exactly like me, but tall, and skinny, and green. See, last time I saw him, he was falling through a pipe. It was foggy and I believe there was lava. Toad: [gasps in horror] Uh, that... is not good. Umm... Your brother has landed in the Dark Lands. They're under... [whispers] Bowser's control! Mario: Bowser? Toad: He's the most evil, wretched creature alive! I'm taking you to see the princess. She can help you. She can do anything! Mario: Princess? (sees Princess Peach's castle on a hill) Whoa! Toad: Come on, Mario! Our big adventure begins now! Mario: Hang on, Luigi.”

Weaknesses[]
Small stature and gutlessness: Despite his determination, Toad's smaller size than Mario has made him easily to be picked on solo, sometimes without the help of others or power-ups. Two instances is where Kamek easily strangles him in his magic, and another is when Bowser easily overpowers him in a fight.
Toad was originally going to have a musical number in the film, before it was scrapped. Despite that, Toad's interest for music is referenced several times, where an artwork of him in a band on a banner can be seen in the background, scatting when wanting to join Mario and Peach on their adventure, and playing the flute in the Fire Flower Field.
His interest for music may reference his 1993 movie counterpart, (portrayed by the late Mojo Nixon) whom former occupation was a street musician.
In contrast to the games where there are various red spotted Toads in blue vests, this version of Toad is the only one who wears clothes that differ from his color. This was most likely done to help him stand out in the movie.
