Suki Lane is a major character in Universal•Illumination's 2021 animated feature film Sing 2. She is an anthropomorphic saluki dog who is Jimmy Crystal's famous talent recruiter and assistant.
Background[]
Personality[]
Suki Lane doesn't mince words and can come off as blunt, a little rude albeit honest while attempting to be sympathetic towards performers she deems "not good enough". Suki is aware that her boss, Jimmy Crystal, has a really high bar and that he's not someone to trifle with.
She is not pleased when someone goes behind her back like Buster Moon and his crew did, but she has a moral backbone which inspires her to defy her boss by freeing Buster after Crystal locked him up. She ultimately sides with Buster's group, stops her boss from yet another attempt on Buster's life and has him arrested for his crimes.
Suki eventually redeems herself and stops Buster's bus to inform him and his crew of a huge opportunity to perform at The Majestic theater and is happy when they all accept. It can be assumed she became friends and business associates with Buster afterwards.
Physical appearances[]
Suki is a beautiful saluki dog with brownish fur, shoulder-length copper hair and big brown eyes. She wears round glasses, a teal jacket on top of a tight teal dress, and brown high heel boots.
Role in the film[]
Suki is Jimmy Crystal's assistant and talent scout. She first meets Buster Moon when she comes to his production of a musical version of "Alice in Wonderland". She tells him that she thinks it's cute, but that he's just "not good enough" to make the big leagues.
The next day, she walks in on and is shocked to see Mr. Crystal talking with Buster and his troupe about having Clay Calloway in their show, which she is very skeptical about. Nevertheless, Buster's group gets permission to put on Out of This World at the Crystal Tower Theater. Buster asks Suki if there are any hard feelings between them, to which she warns him that he has no idea what he's getting himself into.
Throughout the duration of rehearsal, she is seen checking in on Buster and his troupe from time to time, especially when Jimmy is around.
Later, when Buster is locked away in Jimmy's closet to be dealt with later, Suki frees Buster and advises him and his troupe to leave the city and never return, in order to avoid facing Jimmy's wrath. She inadvertently leaves the closet door open when she leaves, tipping Jerry off that Buster had escaped.
She accompanies Jimmy, his two security guards, and Jerry to the Crystal Tower Hotel, when the latter informs the former that Buster is putting on his show behind Crystal's back. When they arrive at the hotel, Suki watches as Jimmy's security guards fight Big Daddy and his crew.
As Jimmy grabs Buster and rides a lift to a catwalk high above the stage, Suki calls out to Jimmy to stop him. She is grateful when Rosita saves Buster from falling to his death in the middle of her and Gunter's performance. Jimmy, furious that his assassination attempt was thwarted, tries to escape on the lift, but Suki has already pressed the button to bring the lift back down, making him more enraged. Big Daddy grabs Jimmy and drags him down the stairs, where he holds on to him for the rest of the show.
After the performance of Buster and his associates, Suki ultimately knows that Jimmy is taking the credit for the show, but instead she has Jimmy arrested by the police for committing an attempted murder on Buster during the performance. As Buster and his troupe ride a bus back to Calatonia, she stops the bus and tells them that the Majestic Theater enjoyed the show and wants to have it played, which they all accept.
Trivia[]
- Suki was originally named Dixie during production.
- The name 'Suki' is of Japanese origin and means "loved one".
- When Buster and his team first see her, Rosita casually notes that Suki looks younger than she'd imagined, therefore, it can be presumed that Suki is in her early/mid 20's.
