The Red Cricket Ball is a prop that appears in the 2015 animated comedy film Minions, produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures. The film is a spin-off and prequel to the Despicable Me franchise, and it follows the adventures of the Minions, small yellow creatures who seek to serve the most evil villains in history.
Plot[]
The red cricket ball appears four times in the film. The first time is when Kevin, one of the three main Minions, is playing polo riding a corgi in the Buckingham Palace. He throws a red cricket ball for another corgi nearby, then he starts hitting it with a croquet mallet. He and the corgi run away, and a huge team of athletes riding corgis also plays with him in the same way. The second time is when Kevin plays cricket with a corgi with another red cricket ball. The third time is when Scarlet Overkill, the main antagonist of the film, breaks down the door of the palace with a huge lava gun. A red cricket ball hits Scarlet’s face and a corgi attacks her. Scarlet throws the corgi back on the floor, scaring an artist who was painting her portrait. The fourth time is after the credits, when one of the athletes throws a red cricket ball to one of the royal corgis and takes it in his mouth and runs away. The athletes on the corgis chase him.
Significance[]
The red cricket ball is a symbol of the British culture and sports, as well as a source of humor and fun in the film. It shows how Kevin enjoys playing with the corgis and how he accidentally causes trouble for Scarlet. It also contrasts with Scarlet’s destructive and violent nature, as she is annoyed by the harmless ball and the cute dog.
