The Lego Group
is a Danish toy production company based in Billund, Denmark. It manufactures Lego-brand toys, consisting mostly of interlocking plastic bricks. The Lego Group has also built several amusement parks around the world, each known as Legoland, and operates numerous retail stores.
The company was founded on 10 August 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen. The name Lego is derived from the Danish words leg godt, meaning "play well". In the first half of 2015, The Lego Group became the world's largest toy company by revenue, with sales amounting to US$2.1 billion, surpassing Mattel, which had US$1.9 billion in sales.
They began their relationship with Universal in 2010. As Universal Pictures Home Entertainment distributed the direct-to-video film, Lego: The Adventures of Clutch Powers.
In 2013, a set based on the DeLorean Time Machine from the Back to the Future movie series was submitted via Lego Cuusoo (now called Lego Ideas).
In 2015, the Lego Jurassic World toy line was created to promote the new movie. This included several sets, and a video game, Lego Jurassic World. The Lego toy line continued in 2018 and 2022. To promote Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion.
Several Universal Studios franchises are also featured in the video game, Lego Dimensions.
In 2019, Lego started a partnership with Universal to produce new Lego movies. After their partnership with Warner Bros. ended due to the failure of The Lego Ninjago Movie and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
In 2020, new Lego toy lines such as Lego Trolls World Tour and Lego Minions: The Rise of Gru started to promote their respective movies.
In 2023, a new Lego toy line such as Lego Gabby's Dollhouse started to promote their respective television show.[1]
