John Marwood Cleese (born October 27, 1939) is an British-American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer, who is well-known for his distinctive raspy voice. He is well known for his role as Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, as well as various roles in Monty Python's Flying Circus (and the Monty Python movies). He also played Nearly Headless Nick in the Harry Potter films, and Jean-Bob the frog in the 1994 animated film, The Swan Princess
For Universal Cleese performed the voice of King Harold in Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After. He also co-wrote The Croods, did the voice of Cat R. Waul, the main antagonist of the 1991 Universal animated film An American Tail: Fievel Goes West and King Gristle Sr. in Trolls.
