Background[]
Personality[]
Physical appearances[]
Jean-Clawed is a fair-skinned man with medium-length hair, sideburns, and stubble. He wears a Breton-striped shirt with flared pants and a bowler hat. His most striking feature though is his red mechanical crab arm which replaces his right.
During their confrontation with the Anti-Villain League, the Vicious 6 (minus Wild Knuckles) use the power of the Zodiac Stone to transform themselves into various hulking Chinese zodiac signs, with Jean-Clawed taking the form of a proboscis-like snub-nosed monkey. Strangely, his bowler hat and red mechanical crab arm are his only remaining attire after his transformation, even growing in size to fit his new form.
In present times, his physical appearance remains almost completely unchanged, except his medium-length hair and sideburns are now graying due to his age. His crab claw is also taped together to ensure that he doesn't hurt anyone in prison.
Powers and abilities[]
- Giant Claw Arm - As his name suggests, Jean-Clawed possesses a giant red crab-claw in place of his right arm. This claw he possesses is capable of giving Jean super-human strength, as seen when he was able to use his claw to dig into concrete. Jean often uses this arm more than he does his regular arm.
- Monkey Physiology: When using the power of the Zodiac Stone, Jean was transformed into a giant monkey that still possessed his claw-arm. As a giant monkey, Jean gained a handful of abilities.
- Superhuman Agility - As a giant monkey, Jean possessed super-human agility. He was able to jump to the top of a three-story tower with only one leap.
- Superhuman Durability: Jean was able to survive both a huge blow to the gut, but also falling off a three-story building into a pit of fire after being hit over the head with a large piece of steel.
Role in the film[]
He was first seen during the introduction of the Vicious Six, who had been waiting for the return of Belle Bottom, the member who had successfully retrieved the map that would lead them to the Zodiac Stone. He next appeared in Asia, sitting beside his fellow group members who were on the verge of betraying their founder, and leader, Wild Knuckles. He took it upon himself to cut the rope that was holding the villain, causing him to fall to his supposed demise.
He is later seen seated alongside the Vicious Six, waiting for their first interviewee to arrive, Gru. When Belle Bottom asks for whoever was responsible for letting the "kid" in, Jean-Clawed admits that he had mistook him for a tiny man. As Belle Bottom confronts Gru about his desire to be their sixth member, she insensibly says that he should instead be "sucking his thumb" rather than trying to pursue a career in villainy, this causes the group to shamelessly mock him, with Jean-Clawed taking part in it as well. After Gru is dismissed, their next interviewee, Wingman, is seen demonstrating the "power of flight". However, his flight pack malfunctions, and Gru uses this window of opportunity to steal the Zodiac Stone. But this doesn't go unnoticed, and eventually causes the supervillains and Jean-Clawed to chase after him. Sometime after Stronghold commands the supervillains to split up, Jean-Clawed and Nun-Chuck are seen impertinently trying to catch Gru, with Nun-Chuck being hit by a barrel rolling van that Belle Bottom climbs atop, and Jean-Clawed desperately clinging on to her chain that she had attached to Gru's bike. Though he successfully manages to escape, Jean-Clawed assures Gru from afar that they would be coming for him.
He and the other villains were next seen all getting into their own individual vehicles that they would use to pursue Gru. His vehicle appeared to be a giant crab-like mech. They used their vehicles to arrive at Gru's house, where they were met with Gru's mother. After further interrogation, Jean grabbed one of the minions with his claw and forced them to talk. He learned about how Wild Knuckle was still alive and how Gru was with him.
They all appeared again in San Francisco while invading Wild Knuckles home with their machines. Jean-Clawed was one of the first to break in with his crab machine. He made it to the top of the home with his machine where he announced that Gru and Wild Knuckles weren't there. After finding nothing, he and the other vacated. They eventually found Gru at the Chinese New Year festival that was taking place that night. After capturing Gru, they took the stone, but at the same time were confronted with the Anti-Villain League. Belle Bottom handed Gru off to Jean-Clawed just as the clock stuck twelve. Once it did, it embedded herself and the other villains to use the gem's power. Jean turned into an monkey-like creature with his mechanical claw while the others turned into their respective beasts. They all reconvened when Wild Knuckles appeared.
They prepared to fight, Jean-Clawed going after the Minion that had been turned into a goat. While being chased, the Minion was hit by Stronghold. The goat soon came back and used his "Inner Beast" abilities to attack the two. After being punched, Jean-Clawed had saw Otto going to save Gru, and so he captured the Minion with his claw. After this, Gru slammed the clock tower's hand into his head, causing him to fall. As he lay in agony, ordered everyone to destroy Gru, and so they all prepared to pounce. Just then, all the Minions used their abilities to create a force to push them all back, allowing Gru to grab the stone. Once he did, he turned them all into rats. In the end, they were all arrested.
