Role in the Film[]
Duchess is occasionally seen prowling around the Hoggetts’ cottage. This is most notable during the scene where Babe and Ferdinand sneak into the house, intent of ridding Mrs. Hoggett’s alarm clock. Much to the misfortune of Ferdinand and Babe, the alarm clock suddenly goes off during their mission, and Duchess is woken up. Further enhanced by Ferdinand’s allergy to cats, a destruction is caused and many objects are upset all over the house. When the Hoggetts return home from church, they find Duchess covered in green paint and and living room completely destroyed.
Later on when Hoggett lets Babe and Fly in the house, Babe tries to make friends with the cat, but Duchess just hisses at him and ends up scratching him on the nose. Hoggett notices the scratch on Babe’s snout, and he confines her outside in the rain as punishment. When Hoggett, Babe and Fly are keeping cosy inside the house, after everyone has gone to bed Duchess properly gets her revenge, by revealing to Babe that humans eat pigs, much to Babe’s horror.
The next day, after Arthur Hoggett performs a jig showing how much he really cares for the pig, Babe goes and eats Duchess' food as payback.
Babe: Pig in the City[]
In the sequel, Duchess makes only a few brief appearances and seems to have reformed. When Hoggett is in a body cast after an incident with the water pump, that Babe accidentally caused, the cat watches along with the dogs, Mrs. Hoggett and the doctors as Babe silently says to himself "Sorry Boss".
