Darius is a supporting character in Universal•Illumination's 2021 animated feature film Sing 2. He is a self-absorbed and egocentric yak who is cast in the stage production opposite Meena in a romantic duet for the upcoming show Out of this World.
Background[]
Personality[]
Darius immediately shows himself to be egocentric, self-absorbed, bragging about the awards he's won for his musical talents, and passively dismissive and rude. He also shows himself to be blind to the fact of how uncomfortable he makes Meena (and getting her name wrong by calling her Gina despite her correcting him once) and that they have no real chemistry together.
Darius is quite narcissistic in how he boasts of seeing what falling in love (with him) looks like on a regular basis, either referring to loving himself or seeing others swoon after him (though it's likely the former).
However, it's also shown, that, like Porsha, he's not the best actor, and he doesn't always listen to direction. He's also shown to be a bit fragile, since he cried when he didn't get a part in a movie.
Physical appearances[]
Darius is a yak with reddish-brown fur. He has two white horns with black tips that curl inward and long, blonde hair that nearly covers his brown eyes. He wears a white collared shirt, a blue vest, blue slacks, and black shoes. His accessories consist of a black scarf, a few gold bangles on his right wrist, and a gold necklace with the letter "D" on it.
For his and Meena's performance in the musical, Darius wore a white suit and cape.
Role in the film[]
Darius is casted in a romantic duet alongside Meena. He is egotistical and constantly calls Meena "Gina". When she first tried to correct him, he ignored it and said not to interrupt him while he was speaking.
Trivia[]
- Darius was originally named Elwood during production.
- Compared to Clay Calloway, as a newcomer in the group handled by Buster Moon, Darius seems less integrated: as their show ends in the Crystal Tower Theater, he is the only one to not look at Buster, and he is not present in the bus that leads the group away from Redshore City. Furthermore, Darius, despite still playing his part, does not appear on the final billboard of the show.
