Brightbill is an orphaned runt Canada goose who is raised by Roz as her son. His story begins when he is just a chick after his family is taken by tragedy. Even though being a parent isn't in Roz's programming, she has to learn how to raise an animal once an infant Brightbill imprints on her. Raising Brightbill takes a village, essentially since he was the runt of his respective litter. As he grows up and nears adulthood, Roz will do everything in her power to see him grow up right.

Raised by a robot, Brightbill grows up before our very eyes, going from vulnerable hatchling to determined adolescent. As he enters adulthood, the character must navigate an avian world that sees him as a total outsider because of his unconventional upbringing.[1]
