William James "Bill" Murray is an American actor, comedian, and writer. He first gained exposure on the NBC late-night comedy variety show Saturday Night Live, for which he earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program, and later starred in a number of critically and commercially successful comedic films, such as Caddyshack, Stripes, Broken Flowers, and Groundhog Day. He also starred, along with fellow co-stars John Candy and Harold Ramis, as Peter Venkman in the Ghostbusters films, and voiced the titular character in the live-action Garfield films. He gained additional critical acclaim later in his career, starring in Lost in Translation, for which he was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actor. He also starred in a series of films directed by Wes Anderson, including The Royal Tenenbaums as Raleigh St. Clair, Moonrise Kingdom as Mr. Bishop, and Fantastic Mr. Fox as Clive Badger.
